MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES UNION INDEPENDENT

The Municipal Employees Union Independent (MEUI) is dedicated to improving the lives of workers and their families by creating a more just and humane society.

MEUI Local 506 represents Municipal and Board of Education employees throughout the State of Connecticut.  

​

Our experienced staff handle contract and pension negotiations. Throughout the negotiations process we work with the negotiating committee elected by the members, and bargain for proposals crafted from the input of the membership.  We are well versed in Workers’ Compensation and disability laws, and our Workers’ Compensation department assists MEUI members who have been injured on the job. We investigate and file grievances and represent members at grievance arbitration.  When necessary to protect members’ rights, we file prohibited practices under the Municipal Employees Relations Act.

We also strengthen the union and the labor movement as a whole by organizing new members, with our reputation for service helping us to organize unorganized workers to fight for improved wages, benefits, and working conditions.
